our homes:
We currently operate three houses, including our own home, as places for the lost to feel welcome. We do not operate the homes as simply a housing project or a few nights shelter. We are in a devoted relationship with the men who live in the homes. These are men who have shown that they are committed to complete transformation and a life surrendered to Jesus.
We strive to create an atmosphere where individuals can feel welcome while they heal and grow. We meet them in various places – on the street, at feedings, through other outreach missions – and invite those who appear serious to visit one of the homes. The main goal is to bring the lost into a safe haven, amongst understanding, experienced believers, where they can have an opportunity to meet Jesus Christ and come into a relationship with the living God. This is done in a communal setting where they can share their lives with others who have had similar experiences. In our experience, the thing that is most beneficial in the transformation process is a new foundation of friends and community. We were all meant to live life in relationship with others, to know and be known.
how the homes are used:
- Emergency shelter – a temporary safe place where the men can take a shower and rest
- A place to help with various life management skills, such as coping with situations that will lead back down the wrong path
- Assistance in finding permanent healthy housing
- Drug education – highlighting the cause and effect of the drugs in our current life situation
- One on one mentoring for support and accountability
- Livelihood skills training – job interviewing, computer software, resumes, appointment setting, etc
- Assistance in social security claims for disability and health benefits
- Weekly home church which provides a consistent, familiar atmosphere and a place to share input
